Do Male Coyotes lift theur leg like male dogs?

My wife asked this one...

Do male coyotes lift their leg like male dogs to mark?  I did not know.  Any ideas?

YUP!

That way they can leave their mark on the sides of trees, fence posts, weeds and such!
NOTE:  The higher their scent, the more it will be dispersed by the wind and the more attention they'll get!  :wink:

Male coyotes Mark their territory in this way in order to keep outsiders out of their territory, If you spend some time out in coyote country you might see a battle over the area that is in question. During mating season is when its most likely to happen.........Joe............

I think the proper answer would be that you need to spend more time out Coyote hunting so you can observe one taking a pee to report back with first hand knowledge.  Just remember, don't snarf him until he is finished.  Larry

I am sorry if i didn't use proper english, You don't learn much sitting out in the hall or the principals office which all stopped in the seventh grade when i quit school, BUT i have watched many many coyotes tinkle even the little girl coyotes tinkle, They will even tinkle where the boy coyotes tinkle.This knowledge is what kept money coming in during my years as a trapper. Tracking in the snow is how I have learned he most about what coyotes and foxes do. Cut a track and follow it for the day. BTW I have walked up many this way. Kinda interesting to see where they bed and how they get to the bed.  This shows how they catch the wind and watch the back trail.

The males do like to mark their territory as they make their runs. The females urinate at the site of their droppings most of the time. Young, like young dogs, will often squat to pee. Droppings will tell you a lot about what has been on the menu. JV.

I've also heard of the occasional female dog that will raise a leg when having a whizz.  I would imagine that this is also true in the world of the coyote.  Christ, females are horning in on everything.  Best wishes.
