I have been reading mixed reviews on the Rhino. Some say they love it, others say the radio is too weak making the "buddy tracking" too weak. Do you folks know anyone using them? If so, what do they say about them?

Garmin Rino was "weak" because FCC would only let them broadcast buddy information on the FRS channels that only meant a two mile range. Garmin has now received permission from the FCC to broadcast buddy information on the GMRS channels which should boost that to the five mile range. I have used the buddy system on the FRS channels and it works great. You can upgrade the software on your current RINO or any other Garmin by checking out the Garmin site at www.garmin.com. This would allow buddy info to be sent on the GMRS channels.

Jerry J: Very interesting news on the Rhino software upgrade. I just took a look at the Garmin site and it is there. Good news for Rhino users. I noted that there was an upgrade that inabled GMRS on Canadian Rinos.

What is the story on the use of FMRS/GMRS radios in Canada?

gmrs radio's recieved crtc approval in the fall of 2004, for use in canada.they are now legal for sale or use in canada. It only took them 4 years to come up to speed!
