Varminter, other than getting all the velo out of a cartridge, or having a long sight plane for iron sights, like the buffalo classic, all a long barrel does is locate tree limbs and vines, add weight, and yes have more whip than a shorter barrel of the same contour. with a good shooting gun, chopping it would be of little real value, other than "handiness", but with a rifle that shoots like a bad shotgun, it could be the saving grace, AFTER, all the other non-permanent fixes have been tried of course.
