Hadn't thought of that, but I was sizing it up for a 50/90 conversion... then I found out that the bore size was different.

Nope, 500 S&W shoots .500" or .501" bullets, all the other .50 cals shoot .509" to .511" bullets. But you may be able to load the .500"/.501" bullets in the other cartridges....sizing the necks may be an issue.

How about just necking the Alaskan down a tad to 500.  I'd think a .009 ot .010 change in bullet diameter would just require a little more care in working up a load using existing 50 Alaskan data.  It would require a custom finish reamer tho, so the neck/throat isn't oversize.

ok...  if the rifle and pistol "50's" use different sized slugs, and working over a 50 Alaskan case to fit .501" slugs will be pain, then what could I ream out a 500 S&W chamber to to offer more case capacity?

Any .500-.501" cal cartridges in the world larger then the 500 S&W?

how about the 50/70 or even the 457 magnum, from wild west guns?

The 457 Mag shoots .458" bullets. The 50-70 shoots .510"-.511" bullets.

Looking at the list of half bore bullets at Midway, there's not much else to do.

There are only two cartridges you can rechamber a 500 s&w magnum handirifle to and they are .50 ae and .500 linebaugh. And i don't think 50 alaskan would be a step up from 500 S&W anyway. But if you're dying to have one buy a .45-70 one and ship it to that guy who rebores and rechambers them. Ask around on the forum i don't think he charges that much.

It would cost $300 for a rebore and rechamber....a fair amount more than a 45-70 would cost.

I realize that but it's the only option if you want one. Unless you want to try and rechamber a muzzel loader barrel or something crazy like that.
