Got a letter from Marlin about the 307 and 356.

I sent a letter to Marlin to request they start chambering these calibers.  I got a response back saying that they chambered them in the past for a brief time and stopped for technical reasons and that they do not intend to chamber them again.

Oh well, I thought I would try.

I would love a 336 chambered for one of these cartridges, even though I  have a .35Rem now that I like.

"Technical reasons" - I wonder what that means?  Feeding/ejection issues?  Pressure issues?  Perhaps the large case diameter combined with the high chamber pressures (52,000 cup) were too much for the M336 action?

"Technical" probably means that sales were not up to snuff. Pressures were not a factor as there has never been a recall on these 336's and in this day of product liability you can bet your sweet bippy that if there was even a hint of a problem then we would have seen a recall. The rumors have floated around for years about the reasons for the discontinuance of the ER model but only Marlin knows for sure.

They'd have to retool a production line and start cutting barrels with those square/flat threads again (their special "pressure" treatment).

Substanial investment.

Probably wouldn't sell enough product in the long run to justify or support the expense.

Also known as "technical reasons".

That's what happened with the original ER line.

Its really a shame too.  Both those ER marlins were good for 250 yards atleast.  And thats father than I need to shoot.

I did see that Browning is offering the BLR in .358 Winchester........but I just dont like that gear lever with the trigger stuck to it.  A Savage 99 in would be great, but thats about as likely as the ER Marlins.
