Trap shooters-what is your average score?

Mine this year was around a 17 or 18...I don't think that's bad for have been shooting for only two years! I of course had my bad days, but that's the average.

My Lordy do I have a story for you!

I got a new gun one nite...NEF Pardner 12. Take it to a shoot thinking I'll be able to hit birds...WRONG!

You should have heard the score keeper for the round...5, 4, 5, 3, *eerie silence*...0. Then one time he read the scores, 5, 4, 3, 3, *with glee in voice* 1! That was the worst day of my life. Thankfully I brought along the Wingmaster that day just in case so I got it out and busted an 18 on the second house!

Heck JP, nothing wrong with missing a few birds and rest assured that is a minor thing. The worst day a guy can have on the range can be far worse than what you described. Personally I don't really care what the scorer or anyone else thinks of my score, I shoot to have some fun and if my scores don't meet someone else's standards, so be it.

Unless the gun fit just ain't there, keep practicing with the Pardner and you'll likely see the number of broken birds go up. Patterning it can also be highly illuminating.

it can be humbling. i had to borrow a gun once last year, and shot a 6 with it.

Maybe I should change my name to "shotgun man".. :-)

I have been shooting trap for 2 years now. My average of registered targets shot is 89.5. This means 89.5 out of a hundred shot at are broken. I have shot as high as 93/100 a couple of times, but still can't hit that elusive 100 straight. How the big dogs do it , I'll never know...well maybe some day

Based on my average that would mean about 22 out of 25 per round, although this is not how it works in the real world. Sometimes I'll run a 25 straight, then an 18, then a 24, etc. etc.  I have shot 49 out of 50 twice, but still can't get that darn 50 straight patch...its humbling shooting trap..

Great sport.  I've only been shooting trap for less than a year.  I could never get above 16 to 18 for a long time until I started shooting with both eyes open.  Got up to 20-22 out of 25 with my 870 Express which is a field gun that I put a trap stock on.  Of couse being a field gun it was a flat shooter and you had to cover the bird.  I am now shooting a Browning BT-99 which shoots higher.  My score when down at first but is back up to what I was shooting with the 870.

Remington has trao shooting fundamentals on there site.  Here is the link:

I started shooting trap during this springs trap leauge for the first time.  I started off the first nite shooting a 41 of 50, which I didn't think was too bad for the first time.  The following week I shot a 47 and that was the lowest score for the next 7 weeks.  I ended up shooting a 48, two 49's and 3 50's.  This I am now in fall league and have shot 5 times so far- 4-50's and 1-49. I have been very pleased considering this is only my 2 league ever.  I have always considered my self a good wind shooter and have shot a lot of skeet, and let me tell you, trap is a lot easier than skeet.

I hope to keep improving and I am sure I will end up becoming even better, considering I am only 20 yrs. old.  I think I am going to compete in the Iowa state trap meet next year for the experience.  I shoot a benelli supersport and love it.

The thing that sucks though is that my handicap keeps getting pushed back further and further.  Last week I shot a 49 at the 26 yard handicap.  all the others were 23-25 yds.
Accuracy doesn't come from the arrow, it comes from the Indian!
