tapered bore

Tonight I was looking at the new .357 mag barrel I just got from NEF and thought I'd measure it to see what size pilot the reamer will use when I decide what to chamber it to. I tried gauge pins in the muzzle and was surprised to see a .351" slid in easily. OK, will it go all the way? Heck no! It stops halfway down, and dosen't go at all in the chamber end. A .350" went all the way. Man, tapered the wrong way! Aaaagh! Well, that's something to ponder. Do I care enough to try to lap it straight before rechambering? It'd be fun, but I don't know if one of these guns is worth the effort. Maybe just rechamber anyway and use loads with lots of cream 'o' wheat filler to try to seal the gas. Heck, I dunno - I'll do something fun with it.

Naw...I think H&R is just trying the "blunderbuss" theory of rifling. We've seen other strange characteristics in their rifling. They were bound to get around to this.

I think Wally is on to something there.....95Roadking's 204 barrel had rifling in only half of the barrel, maybe someone there just has a creative imagination and is testing us to see what they can get away with!! :)  :)  :)
