Rebarreling 6.5X55?
« on: February 20, 2003, 05:59:51 AM »
Can anyone tell me where I can get a new replacement barrel for an M38 swedish mauser? I have modified my rifle so it not nessacary to replace the barrel with a miitary contour barrel, but they are good barrels so it makes no difference to me. Because I have a medium set of bases on my rifle I had to remove the back sight, so maybe a commercial barrel would be better. Any help on this topic will be appreciated. Worm

Samco used to list original barrels in their Shotgun New adds.

wormbob:  you can also try Numrich Arms/Gun Part America.  If you want to consider an aftermarket barrel, there are many who manufacture darn good quality barrels - The Montana Rifleman comes to mind.  hope this helps.  Mikey.

Thanks for the replies. I've been meaning to get the new Gun Parts catolog, but have been hunting and trapping with very little off time.
Thanks again, Worm

wormbobsky,

Besides those mentioned above you can check with Brownells either in their catalog or on the web. They list some threaded, short chambered barrels specifically for the Swede as well as the usual blanks in sporter contours.

Also try Lothar-Walther in Cumming, GA. They make exceptional barrels for very reasonble prices. Woody Woodall is in charge and is very easy to work with, extremely knowledgeable about Mausers as well.

Best.

Over the weekend there was  a new m-38 barrel on ebay. Was going for about $78.00, as  I recall.
