Problem with my Sharps
« on: June 27, 2005, 01:51:12 AM »
I have a Sharps manufactured by Armi Sports and imported by  Taylor .  It's about two months old, and I've put perhaps 600 rounds thru it.  It worked great till yesterday.

Something must have happened inside the mechanism, and the hammer will not stay in full cock or half cock unless I pull the set trigger first.

Is a sharps complicated to fix, or should I send it back to Taylor Firearms?  I hate to be without it for a month or so.   I was wondering if it might be fouling inside the action, or a burr or something.  Should I attempt to repair it myself?  What do you think?

My personal opinion is , to send it back to Taylor Firearms. Get it fix right and save yourself some time. If it is only 2 months old. Now is the best time to send it back, it is not hunting season yet.  :D

I'm actually not a hunter, but I use it for side match competition in SASS events.  A fellow over at their website suggested I adjust the set trigger.

Duh!

Oh well, it's fixed and I'm happy now.

Before sending it back I'd check to see if the adjustment of the set trigger is the problem. Might be and it's a screwdriver adjustment is it not? If that's not it then you can always send it back. I'd call Taylor first and discuss it with them, they might have an easy fix without returning it also.

Frog,
It is surely the set-trigger mechanism, but probably not the outside screw on the bottom of the trigger plate.  You would certainly have tried that first.  There is another screw on the inside of the trigger plate that adjusts not engagement but spring tension.  That screw WILL tend to back out after a lot of shooting.  'Happened to me the same way.  Solution; disassemble, adjust, reassemble, try, repeat as neccessary.

When I get them set I put a dap of clear fingernail polish on them.  The screws stay where they are set it.
