I have a Contender pistol I have had for about 15 years now and I love it.   I want to get a .223 rifle for use on varmints like coyotes and I can’t decide if I should just get a rifle stock and barrel to convert the gun I have or if I should buy a new G2 for my varmint rifle.   What do you all think I should do?

I would use the frame that you've got and set it up as a rifle. You're already familiar with the trigger, so that's a big plus. It's also be more effective cost wise too. The dollars that you save on the frame will leave you more money for extra barrels, accessories or ammo. Lastly, the G2 frame is a bit heavier and the triggers aren't supposed to be as good as the original Contender. I've got a SS 223 carbine with a 21" barrel and it makes a nice carry rifle.  MI VHNTR

People keep saying that, but you can't prove it by me.  My two G2s have great triggers from the factory.  As good as my original Contender.

I have my Original set up for the heavy recoiling centerfire pistol rounds, due to the availability of a rubber grip.  If one ever comes out for a G2 my original is most likely on the block.  I think G2s are a logical, well thought out evolution of the breed and far superior.

So, we one vote for the older Contender and one vote for the G2.   I was hoping for better insight than that.

I like the idea of saving money for more barrels by using the one I have but on the other hand being able to recock without opening the action has merit also.

I got a new G2 for my Contender, like it a LOT better than my old frame, good trigger. Was shooting inch groups at 100 yards with my 14" 223 barrel, which is 30 years old......... :D

I'd vote that you stick with your original frame. Get a carbine barrel, forend and stock. Try it. If you don't like it, sell the stock, buy a G2 frame and stock, keep the barrel and forend.

There's a lot to be said for familiarity; I tend to be more accurate even when I'm jumping from rim to centerfire, cause everything feels the same. Just my dos centavos.

I'd vote to stay with what you already have, provided you dont mind changing out  the grips/stocks/etc....some people dont wanna mess with that, and at times i get lazy too..i have several frames i keep for handgun barrels, and 2 set up as carbines, but i am a barrel hoarder, and it really doesnt take that many...

as for triggers, the a properly adjusted G2 trigger feels pretty good to me, although i personally like the looks & feel of the older style frame myself. I have bought several G2's to get either the barrel or the scopes, but always ended up trading the frame off & kept my old ones. i guess old habits die hard...
