are we now able to own and carry switch blade knives?

I have seen some around that have a belt clip and are about 4" blade. I was thinking this would be good to carry when hunting if I should need to cut my self out of my safety harness or get tangles up in vines and thorns. they will also be helpfull when I am doing my job.

Switchblades are legal in certain states(california being one) as long as the blade is less than 2 inches long. Haven't read anything in the various Knife publications/online that has changed that ruling on blade length. Police and certain military can own switchblades, called automatics these days, and the ones you see advertised are usually aimed at those folks. Most ads carry that disclaimer if you read the fine print. Check with your local state laws online to make sure, though.

Blade length is not limited to 2" in every state where automatic knives are legal to carry. Also some states they are legal to own but not carry.

This seams to be and area where the laws must be researched for every place you wish to carry one. The state may allow it but the local ordinances may not.

I have a small collection of them, but the laws are so vague in some places that I seldom carry them. Regards, Byron

What I like even better than autos is either a belt-fixed straight blade (I have one set for easydraw for LE) or Emerson's line of knives that have a little claw on it to open as you draw it from your pocket. They are both faster and more legal than any switch blade. But, a piece of advice is to get a good quality switchblade or just a good quality pocket knife before you waste money on what we had dubbed "Hadji Specials" in Iraq (cheap knives from local vendors making a few dollars of the non-knife savvy).
