Well I have got an itchin for a Model 97 shotgun. Only I am not sure which one is the best to buy...Original? TTN? Coyote Cap IAC? Anybody out there have a preference for one over another?

Depends on how handy you are. I have a Norinco and a Cap's WCSE(also a Norinco). I shortened the stock, installed a Kick eez recoil pad and tuned the stock Norinco. It is very smooth and quick. It is not as slick as the WCSE(but doesn't miss by much) and doesn't have screw in chokes. On the other hand it's much cheaper and there was no wait for it.

For the last 2 CAS shoots I've shot the Norinco I tuned, the WCSE sits at home in the box.

I have a very nice Win '97(85%) take down made in 1949 that WILL NOT be going to cowboy shoots and getting beat up.

And if you have done any research you will find the IAC Norinco's have a much safer firing pin system than the TTN or the origional '97. The Norinco will not fire by slaming the butt on the ground.

I have a Coyote Cap 97, but have not used it in competition. (I shoot FCD and that catagory mandates the use of a SxS) I have however made th loan of it to several competitors and they all liked it a great deal. I use it fer turkey huntin' and love it fer that job! It is the smoothest trombone gun I have ever had my hands on...period! I can cycle the action by holding the forestock b'tween two fingers!

I should note here that mine has a Cap "full race" action job in it. It's one of the older ones with really crappy wood, but it sure shoots! And yes, it will slamfire! I just hold the trigger back and pump! If you get a 97, regardless of what heritage it has, I strongly recommend having Cap do his magic on it and installing a choke system! It will be money well spent!

I lucked into a Winchester 97 made in '29. It was rough but the bore was perfect--course I bought it off the wire and didn't have a chance to look before I bought--hence the lucky part.

Cap did an action job on mine and it's as smooth as silk. When I do my part it works really well.

Think what I'm saying is whichever one you get you might stash a few $$ back and plan on having Cap or someone else do some work on it. It sure makes the shotgun part of CAS more enjoyable--at least for me.

I have been doing competition shooting of different types for some time. I am considering getting into CAS. I have a 1897 Win with a 30 inch barrel in good shape with an aftermarket stock. I hate to cut the barrel since it is in good shape. I would rather buy a use barrel have it cut and add choke tubes.

I may want to have my action worked on as well.

Any way can some tell me who/what CAP is?

He does good work and you can call and speak to a real person--either Cap or Jody.
