I have read of the problems with galling when you have stainless steel slides and stainless steel frames, one was even a kimber Model 1911 that had this happen after putting 5,000 rounds through it and using the proper lube.
I am thinking of getting one of the P series Ruger pistols in 9 MM, either the aluminum frame or the polymer frame and was wondering what type of steel is used on the frames? At least I know that the slide is stainless steel. I have a Ruger GP 100 in blued steel that has stainless trigger and hammer parts, so I am concerned that at least with the polymer framed gun, the slide rails might be stainless. Anyone with this type of pistol, does it seem to be stainless or carbon steel as far as the frame rails are concerned?
Thanks.
