I have just placed an order for the Limited edition 1886 45-90BPCR
501 issued in 2004 and 5001 in 2005. Do any of you have any experience with this firearm? Did you replace the rear sight with the original style ladder sight or did you add a tang sight. The original had a ladder rear sight and is available from Buffalo Arms. It looks like that would be useful for long range shooting but what about using it for 100 yards or less?
What about the manual tang safety? Will that prevent the use of a tang sight? Is the receiver drilled and taped for a scope? I don't want to add a scope but I want some other rear sight beside the Cowboy Buckhorn Sight. There are several peep sight that mount in the holes drilled for a scope. What do you suggest in place of the Buckhorn sight?

I have an 1886 EL thats basically the same as your takedown 1886, and I added a Williams FP receiver sight on mine.  They do make a Tang sight for the newer 1886's with the tang safety but, you have to drill and tap one hole.  The receiver should be already tapped for a receiver sight.
Good luck, they are fine guns I really enjoy mine. 8)
