Crimp required for 243 Win. Browning Bar Auto?
« on: July 03, 2005, 03:10:12 PM »
Loading for a friend's rifle, and was wondering about,  to crimp or not to crimp?    I due already load for my Ar-15  without crimp, and have had zero issues. I normally don't crimp rifle rounds and was just wondering which way to go.   Any exp. with this issue greatly appreciated.

This is what I plan on trying!!
Imr 4064,4831, and 7828
Sierra 100 gr   Pro Hunter  .243 dia
Remington Nickel  Brass,  and  WLR or CCI  LR primers

  Any thought's or input   welcome!!

A buddy of minr has a BAR in 30-06. He uses my reloaded rounds without a crimp. His accuracy is very good and he hasn't had any problems with my loads.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

A crimp really isn't necessary, but you might wnat to use a very slight taper crimp, just for feeding reliability.

Another thing you might want to do is use small base dies when loading for any of the semi-autos.

I was suprised to find my BAR 30-06 is happy with about any hand load I feed it from 110gr to 180gr. I do full length resize for this gun.
