I know this is a little off-topic, but I can trust the shooters here for fair, no @#%$# answers and insight. I'm looking for a good variable high mag. scope, I have a benchrest buddy who shoots and swears by a Tasco Target 6-24 power, he also owns several leupold and nikon tubes, but prefers the tasco? I know the $$ is not the deal with him, so do these things perform well, or did he just get a rare bird? :roll:

I have the target Tasco 6-24x44 with fine cross hairs and 1/8 dot.
I like it good enough. have it on my 223 Ultra and it holds zero just fine. I usually only use it up to12-16..... 18 Max-anything over that and it gets really dark. On a nice day I can though. Rather have a Leupold myself, but its adaquate and functional-a lot better than the BSA's I have checked out. Though in their defense it has been a while sence I looked at those.

I usually only use Leupold or Burris...on all my Handi's...and I swear by them...but as of late I have purchased a illuminated Mueller 4x16x50 AO...and it is a really good scope too...Tasco used to make some pretty good scopes...but nothing they have ever made IMHO is equal to the Leupolds...Burris...or even the Meullers...a high quality scope that won't break the bank ...the Mueller Eradicator...http://www.muelleroptics.com/Eraticator.htm...for a target scope or long range hunting...would be a good no-BS purchase for your Handi's...others here have them...and really like them...

I would like to buy a Mueller but they don't have a high power (like 6-24x44) scope without the illuminated reticle. I do believe they are in the making though. Meuller really likes the Illumination

Other than that I hear great things about them though, excellent glass, very clear.
Just not a big Illuminated reticle kind of guy though.

I have several Muellers, the 8.5-25x50IGR Eraticator is on my 204 Ruger, great scope for $200, comparable to many costing mush more, in my opinion. The Optic Zone had free shipping and sunshade on em last month, don't know if Jon extended the sale this month or not, I'd give him a call if you are interested.

Seriously though...I have never been a fan of any illuminated scope or red dot...period...they have always been a distraction to me...but these scopes are different...on the lowest setting...(it has 11 settings by the way)...it is hardly noticeable...and on it's brightest setting...you don't get any brite ring (halo) around it as with some of the lessor quality scopes...the high quality etched glass accounts for that...the dots are clear and precise...to say that I'm impressed with it is really an understatement...

I have Ziess, Weaver,bushnell and redfield scopes. (all good scopes)Ziess is very good, but pretty spendy. I was looking for a scope for my .223 and I am sure Quick remembers that because he helped me with the rings. The guys here gave me some good advice and it worked for me I went with a Mueller Tactical 4-16x50, Illuminated Mil Dot, Matte. Its a very good scope and I really like it. It didn't break the bank either. I plan on replacing my 3x9 bushnell on my .243 with a Mueller scope.

Other than for weight savings of a scope without the IR, the reticles of the Mueller scopes can be used illuminated or black, they don't need to be turned on for their use.

I guess the main reasons for me is also the distraction, but too the size and the over all bulk at the rear eyebell. I do see that it would be nice in low light conditions though. Most of the illuminated scopes I checked out had a bad field of view, though it looks by what Meullers page says that doesn't really apply to them so much.
I would like to see some more models without the illuminated reticle. That's all.
beckerhead-the old Tascos that were made in Japan were good scopes. But the invasion of China made scopes, and cheap labor has taken over Tasco, and has been that way for a while.

I never turn mine on and its like a regular scope. So for me its a non issue. Thats the beauty of it. When the sun starts to go down and Wiley the coyote comes I can see where it could be pretty handy just like our rifles :-)

thanks guys, I knew this was where the rubber met the road for straight talk. It is funny, all this Mueller talk, and I was just at SavageShooters.com reading about them. they seem to be THE bang for the buck glass right now. I will be checking one out. As for the Tasco, I was kinda

I like my Mueller 8.5-25 for punching paper or P-dogs :grin:
