Bulky Side-by-Sides?
« on: July 05, 2005, 07:26:25 AM »
Looking at side-by-sides the two barrels together can be wide (bulky).  How wider is a 20 gauge side-by-side compared to a .410?  I'm thinking of getting a side-by-side but I don't want one that is bulky and heavy.  I will be doing skeet and it will be used as a back up home defense gun.  I don't want a skeet shotgun i'm looking into a coach or hunters side-by-side.  I currently own a 20 gauge H&R Topper Jr.  Thanks.

Respectfully,

I know you didn't mention Cowboy shooting in your question.  BUT if you decide to use your shotgun in CAS sometime down the road it must be 20 ga or larger.

A few of the twenties out there are made on 12 frames and are therefor a bit on the bulky side. But most are a good bit slimmer than the twelve bores. (this is why a lot of shooters are disappointed when they go a twenty looking fer reduced recoil, lighter/slimmer guns recoil almost as hard as the heavier/wider guns in bigger bores)
Smokeless is only a passing fad!

when I watch cas shooters it's fairly easy to spot the twenties.Quite a bit slimmer overall.
Of course the yellow shells help a bit too. :)
