sling studs for Remington 597

My son has a Remington 597 that he packs around a lot. I want to put sling studs on it for him but, I am not sure the procedure for plastic stocks.
Can you tell me?  Thank You

Installing sling studs on a synthetic stocked rifle is not difficult.

The forearm stud hole is drilled and counterbored (barrel channel side) exactly like for a wood stock.

The buttstock hole is drilled for the stud, except that if the plastic is not strong enough (some thermoresins are too pliable) to hold the threads, you drill the hole oversize and epoxy glue it in place.  I would dril and try to thread the stud in first.  If that is not strong enough, redrill and epoxy.

JohnT is as usual correct but I'm more of a pessimist..  I always epoxy the studs in place.  The synthetic stocks on most factory rifles are built for the bottom line, not durability..  I use Devcon slow set and just glue the studs in place.  A tip--  always degrease both the stock and the stud with acetone(quickly as it can dissolve the plastic if left on too long) before bonding.  This insures a sturdy bond between the parts..  It's also a good idea to leave the plastic rough to improve the bite of the glue..  Just curious,, how do you like the 597..

Although I have heard some bad things about the 597s in general, I LOVE this rifle. I am 44 and have been hunting all of my life so, I do have experience. It is very accurate. It has never failed to fire or feed. Whats there not to like?
