Encore .405 Barrel ... Shooting Low

I purchased a .405 Win barrel for my encore last year.  The chamber was originally cut too short (would not lock on factory ammo) and sent back to factory for repair.  Got the gun back after a few mos. and put on a williams peep.  Gun would not shoot on paper at 50 yards (very low).  I then mounted a 2-7 Burris on it and took it back to the range.  Again, the gun shoots very low at 50 yards.  Barely touching the bottom of the target (I would say 15" low) with the scope elevation dialed all the way.  The good news is, the gun appears to group very well.  I have not tried it with the factory sights, but some rough bore sighting (i.e. trying to look down the bore and see where the sights are pointed), also looks to be low.  I'm thinking about getting the Burris Signature rings with shims to try and bring the scope up.  Anybody seen this issue before?  Should I just send back to factory?  I'm anxious to get the gun in shooting shape, so would hate another 2 mos+ wait to get the issue resolved.  I plan on calling T/C tomorrow, but wanted to check in here first for any ideas.

It is not uncommon for scopes to have to be shimmed to get them shooting correctly.  You might want to try switching the rings and see if that helps.  Signature rings are great rings, and that is a good solution.

T/C may have installed the wrong front sight, and may send you a new one when you call them.  That would make things work with your peep sight.

Could just as easily be a scope/ring/mount problem as a gun problem.

I had to shim my 4200 on my 204 barrel.  Very simple to do.

I've had three scopes on my Savage ML. The first two were 1/4" clicks and
took a LOT of upward adjustment to get her on bullseye @ 100yds. The
third is a 1/8" click scope and there was just not enough adjustment. I got
the Burris Signature rings with a 20 degree offset ring------that was STILL
not enough. I then added a .015 shim, which was enough, but the more
extreme angle caused the front of the ring to close metal on metal before
the rings were tight on the scope. I then used electrician's tape on the
inside of the metal of the Sig rings, giving it .014 less diameter. THAT did
the trick, and the rifle promptly obliterated a 1/2" bullseye @ 50yds, with
a three-shot group, and left plenty of upward adjustment on the scope
left for longer ranges.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. RETURNED IT TO THE FACTORY AND THEY SAID THAT IF I PUT HIGH RINGS ON MY BARREL THAT IT WOULD ZERO IN AT 100 YARDS.

I DON'T LIKE HIGH RINGS, SO I TOOK A 45-70 BRASS CASE, CUT THE HEAD OFF OF IT AND THEN CUT IT, IN HALF, LONG WAYS. IT MADE A TAPERED SHIM THAT I DRILLED TO MATCH MY SCOPE BASE,  PUT UNDER MY SCOPE BASE AND NOT MY RINGS.

NOW IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BARRELS TO SHOOT.

THIS BARREL WENT BACK ONCE BEFORE TO CORRECT THE HEAD SPACING.

I had this same problem with an Encore .50 Muzzleloader. After mounting
2 quality scopes I called Leupold & they said to put 2 thicknesses of Coke
can under the rear of the Weaver Base & it would raise the point of impact
12" at 100 Yards & it did. However, I think it is crazy that I spent $500.00 for a Muzzleloader that had to be shimmed & still doesn't group well after
sending it back once. I think I will send it back again & if they don't fix it
they can keep it!
