Toyota truck engines

I have an '87 Toyota PU with a blown cylinder head (aluminum 22R).  I've been searching for a replacement cylinder head for the engine and they have been scarce as hen's teeth around these parts.  I've watched Ebay for over 1 year now and all they have are expensive racing heads or someone else's trashed head.  The truck is in excellent shape but I can't find a reasonable source for these cylinder heads.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'd sure appreciate it---that truck's been screaming to go back into the hills so I've got to do something with her.      Thanks guys!

The most inexpensive way to fix it would be to take it somewhere and have someone weld it for you.  That should do the trick for a little while.  It may not be the best thing to do but it will do the job until you find one to replace it.

You ought to be able to find one in a salvage yard somewhere or on the net somewhere. I have a 22RE with 183000 and still going strong. Those Toyota engines are tough as a pigs nose. Has to be with the stuff I put one through.

Same truck and blew head gasket at around 130k. A local shop found me a used one somewhere (sorry) and I had it lathed and all my valves/springs installed on it. Been running fine since but burns a little oil and knocks a little too.

165k miles and still running.

20R head will fit and will actually give you more HP.  They should be available.

Yep, the 20R is the way to go it has round ports instead of the square ones on the22r.  Just check with some salvage yards and you should be able to find one.

You should be able to take your head to a machine shop and have it rebuilt to spec.

Also, I have seen reconditioned heads with new valves, springs, etc. on the net for around $300. If you need the internet address PM me and I will hunt it up for you.

Also, I have a 94 with 200k on the 22RE. The timing chain "keepers", which OEM are plastic, broke and the timing chain ate a hole through the water inlet where it goes into the engine. Gave similar indications of a blown head. I would replace the timing chain and side keepers.

Good luck.
