It's not the Sweet 17 particularly, just that BSA doesn't have a great reputation for durability, they're right up there with pre-bushnell Tascos as far as reputation. The Sweet 17 has a good following at RFC, but I think I'd look at the Bushnell Super 17 if you want that type scope. BSA didn't earn the nick names that apply to it without poor quality that goes along with it. Ive only seen one owner review on the Pine Ridge 17, the side focus was real stiff to turn, IIRC. There's a thread in the Optics forum on Pine Ridge scopes, read my reply.

I like that 3X12 Cabela's scope.  It has one feature that I like better than the BSA.  With the BSA you adjust paralex by turning the objective lens.  With the Cabela's scope it has a knob on the left side ot the tube.  That makes it so much easier to adjust.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Yea, me too. But I wonder how a scope with these specs, especially the side par. can be sold so cheap! If the quality is good, I am ready to buy, but I would prefer to know more than just those reviews.

lostsniper308 is currently serving proudly at Ft Hood in the US Army, so I doubt we'll get any feedback from him for a while.

When I bought a 17M2  NEF, thought I had several scopes in my box.
I did, but, nothing that was much good. Had two that were junk and didn't
know it.
Put a .22 scope on it, so far that's still ok, but, am not happy with it, that will
be replaced with a Sweet 17 BSA.

Because when I got the HMR in the same gun.  Asked the clerk for a Simmons
that would be good for it.  He handed me one of these BSA Sweet 17's and after
looking it over, reading the info etc. Decided to give it a try. At around $60 plus
a med ring I'm happy so far.

The one major thing I don't like about it, and don't know if better/other brands are
the same way or not as this is the first dial a matic scope I've ever tried.

The dial had been spun a good many times so it was at least 6 feet off at 25yds.
Once I got it zeroed, after having to start at 15feet to even find it.

The dial was off, it was saying almost 300yds when it was on at 100yds.
When I took it to the store to have him reset the dial the first FKG thing he did
was start spinning that blasted dial again!!!!!  Oh man, I just about whacked him in the head!

Before long he'd had all the bitching and complaining he could stand from me and handed me
a full box of ammo to go rezero it again.
Hey, I appreciated the ammo, but, that took the whole afternoon and another trip 26miles to
the range again.  When it was done when I took it in there.

I don't feel these dials should be able to be turned forever like this one is.

Has anyone else had similar experience with this? OR any other scope with the dial a matic setup??

I know good and well, this gun will be laid down and will slide and the dial will be spun several times
and get it out of adjustment again.
I'm sure open to suggestions on how to prevent it. Anyway to lock it down to half turn or so?

Thanks much,
George

I have a 6-18x50 Bushnell Banner on my .17 HMR, and love it. I am going to pick up my NEF in .17 Mach2 in a little bit, just got in! I'll be putting a Simmons 4x32 on it since it will be used in the woods where distances are much shorter. If you are looking for a long range scope, check out the Bushnell. I got mine from Midway-USA for $125.

Oh, and Hi to all - my first post here.

Welcome aboard tatersalad!! Mmmm, your user name is making me hungry!!!! :D

I think you'll find that The Optic Zone, a GBO sponsor, will kick midway's butt on prices on optics most of the time, the 6-18x50 is $112 from Jon. He's also got the Super 17 for $89.
