:-) Hi Balto,
Well I'm not an expert. I shoot bolts ,pistols, a lever and a couple of single shots. Because I have not been able to locate a short action left handed bolt for my son I recently picked up a slightly used .308 lightweight.
It has never shot factory loads. I full length resized 1 time fired brass from my Ruger bolt, shot up 50 of those reloads. Last week end my son and I shot up the second neck sized only batch with zero problems. I'm sure I'll want to trim the cases after the 3rd firing. All I've cleaned is the breech and barrel. This rifle is a gas (pardon the pun) to shoot and recoil is lower than my heavy bolt rifle.
I think the design of the rifle makes it more weather proof than most fire arms. Many guys just don't like semi-autos cause for some people they do tend to spray and pray but the whole idea for using one is in real world hunting situations where fast controlled follow up shots may be necessary in thick cover where a tree or two get in the way. All the hunter has to worry about is aiming and squeezing.
The light weight BAR is definitely worthy of a place in the deer hunters armory. The low recoil is great for young shooters. My son and I can out shoot some of my friends bolts, which I think is pretty cool.
