Fla. hog hunting at Eglin air base
« on: February 21, 2003, 08:51:37 AM »
Has anybody here ever hunted hogs at Eglin air base in the Fla. panhandle, or at Avon Park near Sebring?  I know they are considered a WMA.  Do they only have special seasons, or can you hunt there the year round, with the proper permits?

Hogs in FL

I don't know Mad Dog, but if you find out, let me know. I live in SW Florida and I'm looking for a year round place to hunt hogs too. Somewhere South of Orlando and Tampa though, not too far North.

Thanks,

Avon Park hog hunting

Mad Dog,
Its been three years, but I hunted Avon Park for three years while I was stationed at MacDill AFB.  Avon Park is split in two parts - most of it is a type 2 WMA that you have to draw for.  There is a section (mainly around the prison and along the east side of the base) that is for military folks (active and retired) and the prison guards that has the same seasons/rules as private land, so you can hunt hogs year round.  Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
