270 gr LBT 44 load data ?
« on: July 10, 2005, 05:02:03 PM »
I would like to load this bullet to about 1100 fps for use in a 44 bisley that I carry in Alaska while fishing. I can shoot this velocity very well and would rather hit them in the vitals at 1100 than on the fringe at 1350.
Any advise as to a load?

                                                           Thank You

even though they don't list the 270 grainer on their site, Hodgdon should be of help.  You might want to contact the bullet manufactuer, they usually have data as well.http://www.hodgdon.com/data/pistol/44remmag.php

That bullet is pretty similar to the Lyman 429640 that is now discontinued by Lyman. I load it with 22.5 grains of either W296 or H110 to about that velocity. I'm not 100% certain of the crimp groove location on the LBT as compared to the Lyman so am not sure if this load is right for it or not. But it's what I use.

Thank You for the info. I received two powders and loads with the bullets one was AA9 and the other was 296 at  approx 20.5 grains. I didn't want to reduce the 296 load because I've been told not to reduce ball powders. It sounds like I may get what I want from 296.
I am headed for Prince of Wales Island  Alaska for some fishing and black Bear hunting the first 9 days in Sept. so I need to work on a load for my 44 fishing gun!
                                                             Thanks Again,
