I have heard about I think it is O Gormans that makes "River Power Paste Bait". I am thinking about trying it, anyone have any opinions on this stuff? I am on the eastern shore of MD, if that matters. Thanks! 8)

I've used and know trappers that use PRPB.  There is no question that many coyotes have found where the pad met the pan with the lure.  Having said that, and in no manner, shape or form putting it down, there are other lures that have worked better for me.  This may just be a case of, what OGorman himself calls, habituation.  

Asking for specific lure recomendations can be a touchy thing to answer.  There seems to be at least some regional variation with the effectiveness of a lure and reports to the like, often are interpreted as slamming the lure mentioned.

I tried it in Montana in the early 80's.I didn't have much sucess,it is basically tainted bobcat.I've had good success with John Grahams Fur Country Doublecross.

I'll tell you what here, Dave, considering you live on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and considering the Eastern Shore of Maryland is one of the Country's  best muskrat producing areas if not the best area, I'd stick with muskrat meat for bait.  That's probably what their used to eating. :gulp: [/code]

Cant afford to do that Oldcoon, we have a muskrat meat market, selling each muskrat carcass for $4.00.  Yes many muskrats are around here though.--Dave

It's sold in fine resturants.  It's a red meat, kind of sweet to my taste buds.  

At four bucks for a 'rat carcass I can see why you don't use 'em for bait.   I spent some time with the Abbotts some years back and all of their carcasses went to market.

Years back I thought I was a big time 'rat shucker until I attended the skinning contests in Cambridge.  After I watched a 12 year old girl peel 5 'rats in like a minute and a half I slunk off to a quiet corner with my tail between my legs.   And she was just in the kid's division.

Old Coon:  I watched a friend of mine skin one rat after another while I timed him.  He averaged 25 seconds for each one.  Sure would have liked to see that 12 year old at work.  Ace

Asa  i saw a girl fm Louisana  a few yrs ago do  rats like that 12 yr old and i wonder if it wasnt her???  She lived in the Louisana swamp in a trapping camp on stilts  ( No more  as no rats  becuase of nutrias) All i can say  is there are some right beautiful cajun women in that state that can HANDLE themselves with out a man around LOL  :D

I've used a few times, and had OK luck with it (Powder River paste bait). It is quite a bit more expensive than most other brands, as are most of Mr. O'Gorman's other products.
Was a good article in FFG about keeping bait costs to near "free" levels and that article had some merit to it. I go through a lot of bait myself and found it to be more cost effective myself to purchase an equally well-performing bait at a lower cost than the well-advertised "pricey" baits such as powder river paste. I can get twice as much bait in some cases, and have just as much if not more success.
Just another twist on all of the discussion on this...
