Problem with vinage Colt SAA
« on: July 12, 2005, 02:28:38 PM »
I have a Colt SAA Bisley made in 1905.  This gun had been out of action for many years due to a broken hand spring.  I recently replaced this and fired a few rounds at the range - the only problem was that the cylinder pin backs out as the gun is fired.  There are friction marks on the pin.

It appears as though I will need to replace the pin - but I have a hunch that something else caused the problem.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

Two things to do:
1. Get a Belt Mountain base pin - http://www.beltmountain.com/colt/Default.htm - these pins are slightly oversized and will tighten up your Bisley and the cross pin cut does not go all the way around the pin and gives more "meat" against the cross pin. Scroll down the BM webpage for an illustration.

2. Get a Wolff increased power base pin spring (scroll down the webpage) -

You can order both from Brownell's and save on shipping.
