Was out at the gunsmiths today and showed him my muzzle loaders I built. I figured as long as I am out there I will bring along my K31 and have him put his boresigher on the gun to get my scope on paper. He re-adjusted the mount a bit from what I had done and then adjusted the scope.After I left his place I went to a gravel pit I know of and shot my muzzle loader first then the K31. I have to say the K31 was a joy to shoot the muzzle loader needs a pad the recoil from a light muzzle loader with a curved brass butt plate just does not cut it. Anyway it was windy out and I had taped the targets to a board but they would not stick well with the tape used by the time I started shooting the K31 so I just shot at a empty pop bottle ( 20 0z plastic) Never missed once and bounced that bottle and what was left of it for 20 shots at 20 to 30 yards with out touching the adjustments on the scope. Will take it out on Sat to the Range and try for a group. Today was sure fun plinking with it and sure enjoyable to shoot. The load was 16 grains of 2400 with bullets that I cast and lubed with Liquid alox, mould was Ideal 311407 not sized and they were gas checked with the old snap on style of ideal gas checks. Sure wish they still made these for using on unsized bullets. Will post a range report after I shoot on Sat unless something comes up that I cannot make it. Jim

I'm getting into the mood to start loading for my K31, and if I do, it'll be with cast boolits.

Please give us another report after you shoot it for groups. What dies, & brass are you using?

Lee Dies Rick and Win 284 brass resized to 7.6x55. The Lee dies will do the resizing just run the cases through the sizing die and make sure that you cam over the die. In other words set the die up so it touches the shell holder and put a case in the die and size it then turn down the die some more as there will be a gap between the bottom of the die and the shell holder. Keep moving the die down with the shell in the die until the gap disapears as you size the case. Then you know the the cases will chamber in the gun.

Redding makes a die set up specifically for the short throat K-31 that I would recommend. Be sure the OAL is down to about 2.875" because of the short throat. Some manuals give an OAL which works on other 7.55X55 rifles but are too long for the K-31. Grafs and Son sells brass for the 7.55X55.

I appreciate all the info on the K31. I just received one from AIM and I'm impressed with it. I paid the $10 extra for the walnut stock and it has some flame. I haven't decided whether to buy the GP11 surplus ammo or get some dies and start reloading. I load for my swedes but I doubt if I will shoot the 7.5 as much as my 6.5s. I don't fly commercially because I refuse to go anywhere without my Swiss army knife in my pocket. I think I could become attached to the Swiss K31 also.

Reloading for the k31! Some general observations:

1. Always full length resize.

2. Always taylor your oal to your own chamber and try them before you go to the range. If the bolt won't close with the serial numbers on the bolt at TDC (tod dead center), then the bolt is not closing all the way and the firing pin will not strike the primer.

3. For cast bullets you need either a short bullet or a bore ride nose design to keep the bullet base out of the chamber.
