Unique ways to carry your single action
« on: July 15, 2005, 02:39:13 AM »
I will be getting ready for a three day camp out in the White Mountains of New Hampshire this afternoon. I'll be carrying my Ruger SBH 5.5" 44 magnum for bear and all other catagories repellent.

One of the issues with carrying a big bore revolver is its size when you go to areas that are more touristy. While in your campsite a good holster on your hip is no big deal, but when one goes to town for a latte' or minature golf or some other activity( Ok I know it ain't 'real camping' to some but this is a mini vacation)  the sight of a hogleg may cause some people a bit of distress. So I carry in a home made belt pouch.

I have a Bag master pouch that is just a tad too small for my "bear repellent", so I asked my mother if she could make something. She did. She is very creative and resourceful( something that many young girls need to emulate these days) in creating a multi-pocketed belt pouch that can contain my SBH effectively.

I found that I can draw the gun without too much difficulty and contain other things that are needed when out and about. I find that this pouch is pretty handy when you wear some shorts or sweat pants and a regular holster is out of the question.

Edited to remove a comment made about the latte'.  Don't want to offend anyone on the forum.  Also removed a comment suggesting laced pearls on the pouch.

But seriously folks, there is no way to conceal a huge handgun in your shorts (at least not for me) when you go to town.  Leave huge handguns in your vehicle or your pack if you want them to go unnoticed.  Carry a small .38 (S & W) when you go to town.

hey pard
i am 5' 6" tall and weigh abt 190 fully dressed
the only handgun i currently own is a ruger vaquero with a 4 5/8 barrel
i have successfully carried this gun concealed during all the seasons in georgia, (from extremely hot to freezing cold) wearing anything from cargo shorts and a loose tanktop to a thick thigh length over coat.
i have just stuck it in my pants and carried it "mexican" but i do have a nice iwb for it from milt sparks the summer special.
most of the sheeple dont pay any attention to you if you dont draw any to you. the only problem with concealed carrying the sa ruger is wearing it on in the traditional strong side behind the hipbone position, is the grip printing when you bend down to do anything always squat and make sure your shirt tail is long enough to cover, alot of times if im running into a convenience store i just stick it in the front pocket of my baggy cargo shorts
like i said most dont check you out to closely
just my two on it
btw the vaquero is the only handgun i own because i have been shooting sa since i was 8 and know my rv like my own hand
