Grice to re-issue .35 caliber 7600s in fall of 2005!
« on: July 15, 2005, 03:03:50 AM »
Just contacted Grice's gun shop in Clearfield, PA. yesterday, and  they confirmed they will be re-issuing the limited runs of 7600 rifles in both .35 Remington (carbine) & .35 Whelen calibers. Each will be limited to 500 units. I was told they decided to do this because of the tremendous response they got last time they ran these limited editions. Both should be available somewhere in the September/October timeframe.

I noticed the same thing the other day while checking out their website.  I also noticed they raised the prices on both.

If anyone is thinking about getting the 35 Rem carbine, don't hesitate. I bought one and in two years of using it the rifle has become my favorite deer rifle. If I had the cash I would get another one for my son to use when  he gets old enough to hunt.

I like the idea of a .35 Rem carbine but why not get a .30-06 instead? Just curious.

All three look very good to me.....I've always wanted a .35 Whelen......I already have a .35 Remington in a 336 Marlin.......and the .35 Whelen would fill the gap between the .35 Remington and my 1895 Marlin in 45.70.

I'm assuming that the Whelan is a 200 to 250 yard cartridge, who's use would be on medium to larger game in moderate to heavy cover, and not so much of an open plains type rife.  I've thought the Whelen would be the perfect moose and elk round.....but what the heck does a dumb old hillbilly know about moose and elk?

Would I be correct to say, that at the hunting ranges that the Whelan is used for, there would be no advantage to the bolt action, and in fact, that the slide action would be the better choice?

Really, for around these parts, a Whelen probably is more gun than needed especially as I have the other 2, and a couple of good .270's and smaller calibers........so why have I always wanted one?

The slide action 7600 .35 Remington sure looks nice as well....especially in a carbine......don't see that many slide actions down this way.....seems the southern boys prefer levers.  I think I'd like one though!

506,
The 35 Rem is plenty of catridge for the average hunter. The 35 has very little recoil. I have a 760 carbine in 308 Win and there is a noticable difference in recoil. I put a Leopuld Vari-X II 1-4*20 scope on my 35. This set-up is just an awesome rig especially if you hunt thick woods and pus.

I have long been a 35 caliber fan. I bought one of the Model 700 CDL 35 Whelen rifles last year from Grice. I love it! Now, I'm thinking it needs a "little brother." The 7600 in 35 Remington should do nicely.

I checked the site out. I'd like another carbine but I'm not too sure of the 35 Remington. Why is this attractive? I looked at an old Remington catalog and the balistics are similar to a 32 Special Winchester which IMO isn't the greatest deer round. Now I know people will jump all over that one and I have a friend myself in Maine who has shot quite a few deer with his little model 94 lever gun in 32 special but he also has a 742 in .280. When I was looking to buy my 7600 and was thinking about calibers he pushed me onto the .280 (Thanks!) and I was glad he did.

I guess I'm wondering why people are attracted to the 35 Rem...

I got myself one of the 7600 's in 35rem. for a Christmas present ,I really liked it ,But then sent it off to SSK to be rechambered to 358win.  now  I LOVE IT. Two hundred yds. is a long shot in Bama woods. I scoped it this week and got it sighted in . Inch and a half high @ hundred yds. Two inch low @two hundred. This ones got a home.
BIGGER and faster is always better !

DMF------As near as I can tell it's about balanced performance, it works well at the woods ranges where it is most often used. I think that the .35 Rem, .32 Win Spl and the 30-30 all fall into this group. If the shooter can hit his deer in the chest he will have venison.  Recoil and report is light, they usually come in fast handling rifles that tote well in the deer woods. They often are the cartridge a hunter grew up with before he became educated and moved up. This isn't to say they are the best, just that they really work well at what they were designed to do.

I moved up to a 30-06 from my 30-30. Then played with a .308 and a .280. In my experience there was a difference. The higher intensity cartridges tended to put deer down a little faster. I had more drop on the spot reactions, with the 30-30 I usually had to walk 50 yards to collect my deer. The faster rounds were louder, kicked more and destroyed a great deal of meat in the process. My 30-30 has been a sure killer, (and I'm sure my new/old .32 sp will be as well), I would love to add a .35 Rem to my old slow classics collection. I suppose they are not the best for texas heart shots, they won't shoot into a skoal can at 400yds, yet in the hands of an experienced hunter in the woods, it's all that is needed. Kind of "if it ain't broke".

I'd bet my life's accumulation of toys that you get more bang-flop shots on whitetail with a 35 Rem than with a 30-30. Only my opinion. Never had one. But my other three .35 high powereds do the bang flop with pleasing regularity.  8)  'Dito
