Lik2hunt could use some help
« on: July 15, 2005, 03:37:50 PM »
For the last 2 days Lik2hunt has been trying to pass a kidney stone without any luck. He was put in the Hospital this morning and is in a lot of pain. If any of you guys have had one of these things, you know what he's going through. I thought you guys might put in a few words to the Big Boss in the heavens and maybe help him out, because he's a good hand for the Big Boss. I've been through this before myself (4 times) and its not any fun. If the stone don't move out they may have to go in and get it(that not fun either). So if you don't mind put in a few words for him tonight.   Digger

I've been told by the "Old Folk" to get an 8oz. bottle of real lemon juice. Take 4 oz of the bottle, and mix it with 8oz of water and a tablespoon of honey. Drink it down, and repeat 8 hrs later. The high acid in the lemon juice disolves the calcification in the stone, and allows you to pass it as a disolved particles. I'm not a doctor, and this is not a prescription. This is what the country folk says works........They also say the stones never come back. I'm praying for you Brother!

Hurt isn't the word for it!!! Ask any woman that has gone through childbirth and also had kidney stones, she'll tell ya she'd rather have the kids cuz passing a stone is worse and I have to agree, it's the kinda pain that makes ya wanta die as a way out....I spent a week in the hospital in '84 passing a stone, they had me on 15mg morophine every 3 hrs, I was barely conscious and the only way I could handle it....after it passed, I spent the rest of the week passing all the blood clots that the stone had caused and that was no fun, either.

The remedies for ridding yourself of a stone only work to prevent stones, or dissolve them while in the kidney where they only cause mild back pain, once they're start moving out of the kidney, the only way to get rid of em is to pass it, the journey from the kidney to the bladder is the painful part, the rest of the journey is just uncomfortable and somewhat of a relief.

Another way for the Doc to get rid of em while they're still in the kidney is called lithotripsy where they blast em with sound waves, doesn't hurt cuz they put you out, but the after affects are ugly, your urine looks like burgandy wine for 2-3 days!! After my last treatment in 2001, I had one stone left cuz the Doc said my stones are the hardest he'd ever attacked, were like concrete! I passed that stone on my last day of work before retirement in Oct '02, went home to some Vicodin or Percocet, don't remember which, passed the stone after an hour or so and was back to the office in time for my retirement party!!!! What a day!!

Lik2hunt, our prayers are with ya old buddy!!

Lik2hunt, hang tough man! I will absolutely talk to the BOSS, never had it personally, but have a 33 year old buddy who has had well over 100 stones,  several full blown operations, and is now on dialysis, so I am familiar with the absolutely excruciating pain that comes along. I ask the Lord to grant you peace, and comfort  and the same to any loved ones by your side, all things work together for the good of those who love the lord. Be in peace bro!

Well he still has'nt passed the thing this morning and is sick and tired of the whole thing. So since I try to find some humor in everything I laughed at him and said better him than me. :)  :) I think the Boss does stuff like this just to make you tougher,or to just irratate you like a good friend would. So all you guys that have had them, its okay to snicker a little at him. :-D  :-D  Digger

Gents,  I'm not a doctor, but there are several different kinds of kidney stones.  What may work for one doesn't work for others.

The last one I had was a uric acid stone 20 mm X 10 mm, which is also predictive of gout in the future.  They caught that one, through ultra sound, still in the kidney and I began taking 9 baking soda (NaHCO3)  tablets every day.  It dissolved because of raising body pH, not by reducing pH.  Citric acid from lemons, limes and grapefruit works with NaHCO3 to raise pH (it's like using Alka Seltzer without the aspirin) by producing sodium citrate, water and a burp (CO2).  It's mostly a preventative or used prior to trying to pass the stone.  I don't think it works with oxalate or carbonate stones.

Many times the next option is the cystoscope to mechanically stretch the tube an let the stuck stone follow the scope back out to the bladder.  I think it's the same device they use to ream prostates (that hurts just thinking about it!) like a roto rooter.

None of it is any fun.

lik2hunt certainly has my prayers!

Like2Hunt,

I don't talk to the boss that much anymore, but I will go light a candle for you. I have passed one small one once, and that hurt way to much for me. Get well soon.
