Ruger SRH 480 and Barnes Bullets
« on: July 17, 2005, 04:15:57 AM »
I have been using H110 and 325gr XTP's for my 480 but this year I want to try the Barnes bullets and I believe the ones I seen on the shelf were 275gr.  My shots are all well within 35 yds and the Barnes bullets look like they should expend all of their energy in the deer at that range.  Does anyone have the load date for these?  And what about experience with this bullet on deer with the 480 ruger?

Ruger SRH 480 and Barnes bullets

I have not shot the Barnes bullets in my 480 yet. H-110 should be the powder to use. My main bullet is a 370 grain cast with 25 grains of H-110. Ihave shot hogs so far but no deer. I have shot the 325 XTPs and they shoot great in my Raging Bull. If your shots are within 35 yards, I would start with the max 325 grain load with the Barnes bullet and work up a little if needed. With 35 yard deer, you should be happy with the 325 grain loading and the Barnes bullet. I think Barnes has loading data in their newest book for the 480.

Good shooting,
Dave
