Anyone try using a Holosight.....

Anybody have any experience with mounting and using a holosight on an Encore handgun?  I got one for a gift, a top of the line model from Eotech, and was thinking about trying it out on deer this fall.  The sight seems much faster to get on target than a scope, and has a finer dot than the red dot sights on the market.  Anyone have any experience with using a holosight out to 150 yards or so?

Which model is your's, the 502, 511, or 512?  

I've never tried one on a handgun, but I did use one on an AR15 for a while.  It was fairly easy to engage targets out to 100-150 yards, but I never tried any true precision shooting with it.  I'm sure it would serve your purposes well, but personally I would stick with a 2x pistol scope on a hunting handgun.

I got one for Cristmas one year to put on my shotgun.  Never did it, so I put it on my 7TCU.  Only problem is, the gun can outshoot the sight!  For precision work, I like magnification.  I've since put it on my Ruger 10/22.  The dot covers up the group at 25 yards and for a 22, It's all it needs for small game and the ocasional crow or buzzard.

I'm using th AA bat model, don't remember the model #. It is a Bushnell which is the same as the Eotech.
I have it on a 375 Win and as others state it is not for benchrest shooting, where I can claim 1" at 100 with the TC 2X7, they open up to about 3-3 1/2' with the holo sight. This is a great sight for woods use and low light, and moving targets. Target aquisition is great because of the umlimited field of view. We hunt feral hogs under low light conditions @ night on feeders and the Holosight works great for this. I tried the illuminated TC
 which worked fairly well but, then when stalking at close range posed
aquisition problems. The Holosight has been through about 200 rounds of 375 Win and seems to be holding up well.  Works great for my needs.

Only problem I have had with one was in low light conditions.  It had a glare which made it difficult to see.

I have a Eotech sight on my Mathews MQ1 bow. Deadly accurate to 40 yds and works great for low light hunting conditions.
For handguns, I perfer scopes. I have a Leupold M8 2X on my S&W 629 Classic and a Nikon 2.5X8 on my TC COntender 7X30 Waters.

I've used Bushnell holosites on my deer hunting barrels for several years and have been very happy with them.  I used to use a 2.5x scope but I like the target aquisition of the holosite much better.  There are no eye relief issues no matter what shooting position I find myself in. I agree with the earlier posts that these are not for precision work but for hunting applications they're hard to beat.  You also have to remember adjust the brightness in the early morning and late day.  The closest I've come to a problem was a time I forgot to brighten the reticle after full daylight and could not see it when a shot presented itself.  I did manage to brighten it in time though.

Yup - I've used the EOTECH on handgun's. Put er' on there and enjoy. I have been happy w/ the performance of these untis on handguns. I have the older model so I have a insert to help w/ low light condidtions that reduces the glare - do the new ones come w/ that insert still?

You can't beat these things for close in work on deer  etc. You can get right on target w/ them quickly!

I wonder if the Eotech doesn't dim down as much as the Bushnell.  I've never had the glare problem at the lowest setting but you quickly loose the reticle as the day brightens.  You have to remember to occasionally check the brightness as the light conditions change.
