Just ordered SB2-F20
« on: July 18, 2005, 06:25:40 AM »
I just ordered and SB2-F20 from the local Wal-Mart. I know some .204's shoot 32gr better then 40gr and vice versa, has anyone had any experience with this rifle?

Hmm, did they check inventory at their supplier? Sports South still shows the fluted 204 Ultra Varmint out of stock....in the past when someone ordered out of stock items from WM, they either never got them, or they had a looooong wait.

If you do a search for 204 Ruger and check Mitchell's posts within the results, you'll get about as much info as can be had on the 204 Ruger and loads. Mine shoots the 32gr factory load best, the 40gr don't shoot well, but each rifle is different. I've also tried the Remington, Winchester and HSM ammo, none shot as good as the Hornady 32gr. Handloading is the next step for me for better accuracy which right now is moa.

I guess I will need to swing by there and ask them about that. Wal-Mart lists that rifle around $100 cheaper than Sports South does.

Sports South is Walmart's supplier, their price is list, Walmart's retail price is $280 which is about what they should sell for with the Choate stock and fluting...

Well you were right, they were out of stock. I had to cancel my order and order the SB2-204.

Mike, for what it's worth, no one here has reported on having a fluted .204, the .223 and .22-250 are available, though and a couple here have them, although they don't seem to post a lot on them. My guess is that Green Mountain, the supplier of most of the barrels for Marlin/H&R/NEF, is in short supply of the fluted .204 blanks since the .224 fluted calibers are available.

I got lucky today!

When I originally ordered this it had to be cancelled because the supplier was out of stock. Yesterday my shooting partner was at Wal-Mart and noticed an Ultra sitting in the display case, looks at the side and noticed it was .204 ruger! He called me up and told me so I went down there today and put it on layaway. Apparantly the order wasn't properly cancelled so Wal-Mart received the rifle I ordered when the supplier got them in stock. They were glad I came in, they know me by name there now.... lol
