What's in a name!

My lovely wife pointed out to me that my screen name may sound like a different spelling of an off color name for a mean person. Wow I didn't see that, I am just a huge fan of Ethan Becker's knives, and it just seemed to fit. Don't I feel like an idiot right about now.

I have had afterthoughts on my handle too, but it is automotively related to a past vehicle, but the name has stuck, seemed appropriate at the time.

I always assumed your last name was Becker, and the screen name was a play on words derived from the p-word.

 Matt, I have to confess, I just did an internet search for "Galt Character Book" and picked the one the fit best....and got lucky!!!  I don't want to mislead you, I'm certainly not a literary wiz!!! :-D  :-D  :-D And my wife will certainly back me up on that, she reads constantly....I do too, but they're all outdoor stories and mostly magazines.

cheater  :D

pick it up...its a heck of a read, a couple thousand pages. she is a libertarian, actually started the movement...

and it is a story of how the government in this country taxed and made rules that screwed the rich over so much that they quit their jobs and it showed how socialism could never work and how the values and ideals in this country are unparalelled in human history.

its a great story with an uplifting ending.

cant recommend it more. it was named the most influential book in this century and i cant disagree. its gotten me through rough times and helped me see areas where i need to improve.

mbjgalt:

I have to say that personally, I am pleased that someone "twentysomething" knows about Ayn Rand and her writings.

I am 58 in a couple of months, and first read her sometime in MY 20's... and the concepts and philosophies I encountered then have not gone away.

By the way, my handle "tallyho" comes from my absolute fascination (from the age of 13) with airplanes and particularly with the Battle of Britain pilots who used that term to indicate they were about to engage the enemy. I have had the honor of knowning a few of them in my life. The father of one of my high school buddies was one.

And it is also the term used in fox hunting when the pursuit of the fox begins....

Cheers

Cookieman has been mine for about 40 years.  I always carried a bag lunch as a kid and Mom always had Hydrox cookies in there.  It wasn't a far leap for my friend, David, to go from Hendrix to Hydrox to Cookieman.  Yes, I still eat cookies like crazy, even though you can't get Hdrox anymore.
Funny how somethings stick with ya for life.  Wonder what David is doing now?

I decided to use GREYSKY as a username several years ago at a forum devoted to insectivorous plants. Frankly, I thought BLUESKY was a bit too optimistic for my taste. I'm neither an optimist, nor a pessimist; I'm a realist.

I picked my name hastily when I first joined up on Modernsportsman.com...If I had taken more time I may have picked a different one but I guess I picked a unique one.  There has never been a case when my name was picked on an outdoor forum before I arrived.

Mine is not to original since my name is Bob and I work in the construction industry.  But it's turned into my name at work, it's even programed into our nextels as Builder Bob instead of my real name.

I work in a office of soldiers, most are very young.  As the only civilian (retired 1SG) they started calling me "Grampa" because I didn't like being called "Mr".  They were surprised to find out that I AM a grandfather 8 times (4 boys, 4 girls), so the name stuck at the office.

Folks: I got Duce from my late mother, as she sank deeper into altzimers, she mistook me for her late brother, Duce, this was his nickname. It made me madder than ----, until I realized it was a great comfort to her to think her big brother was around.

My uncle earned that nickname from his card playing days. Some believe it should be spelled duece, wonder how they spell or pronouce introduce or produce.
Some try to link it to Mussolini which is pronouced doo-ch-ae, which makes more sense to me that it would be spelled duece. Go Figure:  :)  :) <>< Duce:

bowdog62010 is my handle on most others forums I visit.

Bow because I love archery.  dog earlier in the year I had killed a coydog mix, bowcoyote was too long, and 62010 because the first sight I tried to register on already had a bowdog (he died) fall out of a tree stand iirc.

Mac11700 is that page boulevard in St Louis, If so we live about 1/2 hour away from each other. this planet is smaller every day. Cookieman is from my neck of the woods, we went to the same high School just a few years apart. :D
