WNY_Whitetailer, if you are getting animals into 10 to 15 feet, why use a scope at all? If I knew my shots would be that close I would either go iron sights or a red-dot. But that is just me.

That was a fluke when the deer came in that close...I set up for longer shots than that. But as you very well know, deer seldom do what we expect them to do.  Besides, the 4x scope I was talking about was on my 870.  That was one of the first seasons that I had hunted whitetail and I was just told what I needed and I bought it.  A couple of seasons under my belt taught me that I should buy what I think I need and not what others(friends) tell me I need.

I do have a red dot on my Super Blackhawk Hunter and that is the way I like it.  Besides, I use a revolver to get up close and personal. I have no business trying a 100 yard shot with this gun.  I am not nearly that good.  My shots are going to be archery distance...35 yards max...At least for now.  I have given thought to picking up another revolver...Perhaps a S&W 460 when they finally hit the market. Then maybe I'll look into a nice 2x or variable scope.  All in due time...Now to get down to fertilizing that money tree... :D

I was thinking about getting the 460 myself. But I think my 454 Casull and 500 Mag will handle anything needed in that range.  But if I did not have either the 454 or 500, the 460 does sound appealing.  :D

OK I have decided  :D

Leupold variable power handgun scope.

I have 2-3 months to find a used one.  If I dont find one, I might go open sights.

Thanks,
Doug

I don't know why I am saying this, but Leupold is a great choice.  :D  :-D

I have the 2x leupole on my S&W 500 and would not want more powder on that handgun. I can see with it to 200 yds and thats all I need. :D

Looks aside. A four power scopes show shooters an awful lot of shake in their hold and cuts down field of vision quite a bit. Just how far away do you plan on shooting with a .44 mag. and how small is the game your shooting at? I've got a Leopold 4x on a .224 Kaychuck and sometimes wonder if I needed that much magnification for coyotes and other varmits at handgun range? The Leopold M8-2 is a hard scope to beat  and is a lot cheaper than the 4x.
Personally, I swore off Burris a long time ago. Not because of pistol scopes but because of rifle scope service.

Ok after looking at this.  I would like to put on a 2-7x scope, but have a Leupold M8-2x on a .357 mag and it is all the power I need.

I am going with no scope on the .44 mag.  I am planning to practice with the open sights on the .44 mag. over the coming weeks.
