I know, I know, why try and make a 45-70 into something it's not.  I'm intriqued however.  Does anybody use these in their 45-70's?  If so, like em'? hate em'? I've found one link with a load:

http://www.reloadersnest.com/detail.asp?CaliberID=91&BulletWeight=250&LoadID=9674

No pressure numbers listed however :(   Just curious, I love my 45-70 and would enjoy making it even more versatile.  Don't get down on me too much for this one, I'd love some honest input.  Thanks guys!

That load is too hot for leverguns, at least in my estimation. The hottest I have gone is 50.5 grains for the 250 Barnes. I favor the 300 Barnes Original, with 56 grains of IMR 4895 being a preferred hunting load. I, unlike most other .45-70 and .45-90 users, have a preference  for lighter bullets. Out west, the heavier bullets are not as reliable for some of the longer shots that are required when hunting deer and pigs. The 350 Hornady RN is the largest bullet I have used in my guns. It is an Elk killer, for sure.
I get my kicks from an 1886.

I tried these out of my .450 Marlin, but never did hit on a load combination that gave me the accuracy I was looking for.  I'll probably give them another try over the winter though.
