Need some help!
« on: July 19, 2005, 01:19:22 PM »
I'm full length resizing my 308 brass, and after doing that ,I tried to put the brass in my Wilson shell holder for trimming. The case won't fit all the way? It seems the brass has expanded ,just above the rim . I have moved the die (RCBS) up and down ,reread the instructions over and over, and I can't seem to make sense of it. I've had no such problem with my 243 ,or Whelen. A new 308 shell drops right in the holder. What am I not getting about adjusting this die?-- Thanks for your help--Steve

Steve, Did you try a wilson shell holder for a fired case?  They make two types and I think Sinclair has them in stock.  I think you can also send a fired case to Wilson to custom fit the shell holder they are a great outfit .

On the fired case holder the back of the case sticks out somewhat so you can tap it in to hold the case in the holder.  I have the Sinclair/Wilson with the clamp to hold the case holder in place.  I'm sorry that I miss read your orginal post but I figured you knew that you have to tap the case into the holder.  In Sinclairs catalog they also explain that.  If you got one for a new case the back would also stick out to allow for tapping.  I figured you were having problem getting the case to hold in the case holder.    If you look a Wilson part # it is the same holder  for a 243,308,260,358 and 7-08.  In the 35 Whelen they only have one holder and that is the same one used in 25-06,270,280 and 30-06.  I guess I should ask more question.  Sometimes depending on cases you can get new cases to hold in a fired case holder for trimming but it's not a good idea.  Well good luck.
