Product description: Unique® smokeless powder, LOT numbers 850, 859, 861, 868, 872, 876, 890, 898 and 907.

Warning:
Alliant Powder has determined a very small number of eight pound (8 lb.) Alliant Powder Unique smokeless powder containers may contain Alliant Powder Bullseye smokeless powder.

LOADING BULLSEYE SMOKELESS POWDER INTO ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION IN WHICH THE RECIPE CALLS FOR UNIQUE SMOKELESS POWDER MAY RESULT IN HIGH PRESSURE LOADS AND SUBSEQUENT GUN DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY.

If you are in possession of an eight pound (8 lb.) bottle of Alliant Powder Unique with any of the above noted lot numbers, please immediately cease use of this product and notify Alliant Powder by calling 800-276-9337 or emailing reloading@alliantpowder.com

Lot numbers are located on the bottom of each bottle.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately, if Bullseye and Unique are the only two possibilities, it's easy to tell the difference between the two. Bullseye is small light gray granules while Unique is a black flake.

Yeah, but how many times a day is Unique recommended here to new reloaders, or as a powder that is new to an old experienced reloader?

My first and only experience with Unique was in 1974, I didn't much care for it, so never used it again. You can bet I don't remember what it looks like.

I just mentioned the difference so people can race to the reloading bench and check their kegs. I have one good application for Unique: a low pressure 20 gauge target load. There's a lot less recoil and my son likes to shoot it more than the higher pressure loads from, say, Federal or Winchester.

I picked up an 8 lb. can of it at last gunshow. Checked and the lot # is not either of those but neither is it a three digit number at all. But those digits are no where in it so I'm safe.

Just to be sure I opened it and poured some out to check. As Rudy says it's pretty easy to tell those powders apart if you're used to using them. I must say the new Unique sure looks different than old Unique. The flakes are of a smaller diameter. Still as many pounds of both as I've used I'd have easily noticed the difference I'm sure. I could have used the powder even if Bullseye but I'd sure not have wanted 8 lbs of it.
