Welding a new lug on a barrel?

Has anyone heard of anyone that can do this?  I know this isnt the gunsmithing forum, but it is specifically for a Contender barrel.  Can this be done succesfully?  It is a stainless barrel?

I'm sure that this can be done. Virgin Valley does it, as well as anyone else that makes custom Contender/Encore barrels. But, that begs the question - WHY? Unless you just HAVE to have a barrel from a certain blank, you are just making a custom barrel. Many can be ordered from current stock, others take a little (or a lot of) time. Some makers will let you choose the barrel maker you prefer, or let you supply your own blank. Seems to me, this falls under the category of wasting time & money. BUT, I don't try to dictate to others. If that's what you want, by all means, ASK for it! I'm sure VV, Bullberry, et. AL,will fulfill your wishes,,,, FOR A PRICE!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

Yeah folks do it. Personally I'd never knowingly own such a barrel. I'd never feel safe with it. The welding process to apply the lug to barrel and the proper treatment of it afterward is perhaps the single most critical step in making the barrel as far as safety is concerned. If too much or too little heat is applied or if it isn't properly heat treated and cooled afterward it can be dangerous and could separate on firing.

The process of removing it no matter what the means and then adding another in place compounds the chances of problems. For me personally I'd trust no one to do it and me fire it afterward. Neither TC nor SSK will do that I'm quite certain.
