My grandfather taught me to trot line as a boy. I really enjoyed but haven't done it an probably 20 years. He passed last fall and now I kind of have the hankering to get back out and run a line for a night or two, more for his memory than anything else.
The knot he used, I remember it had 2 wraps on one side of the drop line and only 1 on the other side. It allowed the drop line to spin around the main line without wrapping and also, if a large enough fish got on, it would allow some slippage up and down the main line. I don't know if that is described well enough for anyone to know what I am talking about but if it sounds familliar or similiar, I'd appreciate some instructions on how to tie it.
