To HOT to shoot!
« on: July 24, 2005, 07:24:32 AM »
Just wondering if everyone is getting hit by the high heat temps?
Here in Alabama, the temps are in the upper 90's. Add the humidity on top of that and it's unbearable.
I go to  the range every weekend at least once if not twice. But this weekend I haven't been. And the range is covered on the top.
I don't even feel like going outside and cleaning out my UVF barrel.
How is it in other parts of the country???

Here in South Carolina the situation is about the same as there in Alabama.A bunch of us who usually get together every Wednesday at the range have not been lately due to the fact of the hot weather. When you are sweating like a sawmill worker and just plain feeling uncomfortable it is hard to enjoy or concentrate on shooting.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

South Louisiana: High 90s, heat index well over 100 with the humidity
Can't wait til September when it gets back in the 80s and cools off :)

Here in Maryland we had been in the 90's with heat index's in the 100 degree range for the past week until today.  Last week we had very high humidity as a result of the remnants of Hurricane Emily that stalled over the Ohio valley.  Lots of scattered Thunderstorms and torrential downpours.

Yesterday and today have been absolutely wonderful.  Low humidity, temps in the high 80's - low 90's.  Perfect day to be at the range, which is where I spend this morning.  Woo Hoo!!

90 degree temps are predicted through mid-week.

Guys
I wished we had a bit of your heat. We have 44F (+7C).. Had to turn on the furnace to get the house warm. On top of that the wind is blowing with light rain. thought for a while it would snow. I may still do that.

Fred, I'd gladly trade you for a mild temp of 44ºF, I can dress for cooler temps, but you can only take off so much for the heat and then you're stuck to live with it!!

Digger,  it was 105 out here today.  It hasn't been less than 100 in three or four days straight.  I know, I know....it's a dry heat.  You guys are humid down there, but I don't care what anyone says.....Over a hundred and it doesn't matter what the humidity is.......

Hot as it is I got out and did some shooting today. A very nice load for the 38-55 is the Lee 379-250-RF over 11.2 grains of milsurp #107 (Use Blue Dot if no 107) 17 grains of 5744 shoots better than good too. My 357 Max continues to be finiky, until I get a lube 2000 fps capable, I don't think I'll see the best the rifle can shoot.

Hi :D

The weather is great here in Eastern Oklahoma.  It's only in the low 100s.  Just think how much you would have to pay to go to a health spa to sweat.  Here we can do it for free.  Oh, happy days.  I shoot on a federal shooting area mid week.  I seldom encounter anyone else there.  I do wear a hat and long sleeves.  I also take plenty of water.  I'm gonna do it again next Tuesday.  Remember, a country boy can survive.  I will only cancel if both shooting positions are in use.

Take care and God bless.

Tom :-)

Hey guys I was at the range at daylight this morning while it was still cool.  It was still chiggery and tickey looking though.

I shot my t/c omega twice and my t/c encore twice with a 3 pellet load of pyro pellets and the 250 grain shockwave.

The accuracy of this load in both of these guns continues to amaze me.

I have them ready for bp season at this point.  Both are sighted 3" high.

I then shot my encore 270 twice with the remington 130 corelock.

Im satisfied with its accuracy as well for hunting 2 shots nearly touching and 2" high.

I didnt want to heat the barrels up so I just kept each gun to two shots apiece and I just wanted to check the point of impact and see if it was stil the same as my last session.

Yea, here in my part of Arkansas, it was 105 today with high humidity
to boot. Like Quickdtoo said, you can only take off so much & I don't
think anyone would want to see me take off too much.  :)
