I use .433 diameter muzzle loading balls and a load of in the .44 mag. for rabbits, ptargiman and others.  But I forgot what I used to use for power.

It was either 6 grains of Unique or Bullseye.

I have a can of Unique and 100 primed cases but forgot the load.  Any idea on how much Uniuqe.

Yea they work, not fast but that little ball sure gets a rabbits attention.

Sounds like a good recipe for leading! Those balls are really going to be zipping out there with 6gr. of either powder. But if you want to load them that heavy I'd use Bullseye since you're not going to be building enough pressure to get Unique to burn right. One thing that goes a long way to making that work is to coat the balls with Lee liquid alox before you load them. Cuts down on leading quite a bit. You're right about them being a good hunting load - I used to do the same thing in my Ruger #3 44 mag for squirrel hunting. One of my favorites now is the 22 hornet Contender shooting #4 buckshot with .5gr. Bullseye. Deadly squirrel load and way quieter than a 22 short.

Dave:  I tried the round ball load from the Speer #10 book long ago.  Used 3.6 grains of Unique.  First time I tried them out was a COLD February morning down on Turnagain Arm near Peterson Creek, I think.  First shot went OK, saw snow fly and all.  Couldn't see where shot #2 hit, nor shot #3.  Decided--thank God--to check the Super Blackhawk.  Sure enough, had two round balls stacked in the barrel.   :oops:   I don't guess that combo of powder charge/primer worked well in near-nuthin temperatures...   Dennis

From what I remember it was more like 5 grains of Unique.  I used these up on the Yukon 2 years ago with no problem. In the Contender they are a good pest load.  I just got back from the range after trying some with 7 grains of Unique and the POI changed quite a bit on me from the previous batch. The load was right on at 20 yards.  I usually carry a round under the hammer and load the rest of the 629 with 300's.  I can then harvest small game rather esily.

In my Speer loading book they list the .433 120gr round ball with 3grs of unique other loads listed as well 700x 2.6grs.......bullseye 2.3grs.......red dot 2.2grs need more e-mail me.

try 40gr. of Pyrodex RS its what I use and get great shotgroups with them in my 10" SS SB Ruger
