A Rigby might have a ring, but the 416 Rem Mag has the brass.   (little play on words - brass bell......brass case)

While the .416 Rem. Mag. may have some brass, the .416 Rigby not only has the brass it also has the CLASS!   :-D  :-D   Lawdog

Here we go again... :-D  :-D   crow_feather knows the 416 Rigby is the superior round between the 416 Rem and 416 Rigby.

Also I guess I did make one mistake in my other post, the 416 Rigby does no have a ring to it. It is the 416 Rem Mag that has the ring and no brass.  :D  :-D

 You guys seem to be ignoring the plain and simple truth.  The bigbore with the most class is, and always will be, the .375 H&H Magnum!!! :-D

If you got the money WILD WEST GUNS, INC. in Anchorage, Alaska has a lever gun for you.  Or even SSK Industries can fit your fancy.

For mine the lever action Marlin 336 is enough and fine for me.

As far as single shot rifles go I have that covered already.  But we can never have enough

... This is for that back-up when things go bad (Rare and infrequent despite what people think about Alaska, but it does happen), but also for that spur of the moment chance at a medium range shot on moose bear sheep.

I was just re-reading the G&A 2003 Annual issue, which contains an article on the Gunsite Academy's "Back Country Wilderness Skills" which, the week the writer was there, was attended mostly by folks from Fish & Wildlife, US Geological Survey and Bureau of Land Management, and mostly from Alaska:

Quote
"Most of the riflemen in the group used one version or other of the big Marlin lever actions, invariably in 45-70... one of which had been customized by Wild West Guns.... Most of the rest were Remington 870's..."

No question that the .375 is a fine rifle and more than adequate for anything you'd encounter, but for your criteria, the 45-70 would seem to be a viable choice, esp. if you handload; otherwise Cor-Bon and Garrett make +P loadings.
