Langley Ranch - Howie, you were right
« on: July 24, 2005, 02:55:45 PM »
The Langley Ranch in Centerville, TX is a GREAT place.

Just got home from a 3-day hunt with my Son and my Dad.

The Langley's hospitality was outstanding.  Sue's welcoming gift of a fresh-from-the-oven Pear Cake was just the opener.  The accomodations were nice, the land was spectacular, and the management is excellent.

Joe Langely is a true country gentleman.  I don't recall that I've ever seen anyone work harder to make sure that I was happy with my hunt.

His management approach puts hogs in front of a hunter's stand, and there are hogs to be had, gentlemen.  If needs be, he will literally go out and beat the bushes to make sure you get what you came for.  I had my Dad up in a tree stand coaching him through a shot for his first hog, and Joe chased no less than 20 hogs by us.  TWICE.

Over the first two days, I shot two good sized hogs and my dad shot one, and then Joe pulled another out of his hold-pen.  We spent our entire 3rd day just enjoyng the ranch.

The midnight 'coon hunts were just TOO MUCH FUN.

Joe made us feel like part of his family.

Good hunting.  Good lodging.  Good times.  Good People.

I'm going to second Howie's earlier comment that the Langley Ranch is the best place he's ever been.  It's the best I've been to.

You can bet money that I'll be visiting again.

Thought I'd post a couple pics from the trip.

My second hog, 184lbs.  (Forgot to get a pic of the first one, 158lbs.)

My Dad's first hog, 94lbs.

Needed to share the view from the front porch of the cabin.

I'm ready to go back...

 :)

Shot my first one from a ground blind in the back corner of the boar patch, and my second sitting on the edge of a tree stand up in the flat behind the gulley.  My Dad and I were both up in the stand and I was giving him the shot but he couldn't get a bead on one running and I couldn't let it get away.

Ten minutes later, my Dad was kneeling up on the high edge with Joe looking over his shoulder and shot his hog while it was down in the in the gulley getting out of the bath.

Joe gave us the tour of his traps, and we made them a regular stop while we were 'coon hunting at night.  Joe hates that those critters eat his hog's corn.   :)

He's trying to get the turkey population up, and he says the 'coons eat their eggs.

We shot like 20 of them.  Racoons, I mean.

He might as well have been hunting with us.  He shot 'coons, chased hogs to us, cleaned them up...

Like I said, I never saw anybody put more effort into making sure I had a good time.
