Looking for a new rifle

I'm in the market for a new rifle and would like your recommendations.
I'm mostly going to target with it, but it will see some white tail hunting.
What I want out of it is, accuracy, percussion, and patched round ball.
What do you recommend?

How about more than $50 and less than $5000. I want to be able to pass it down to a grandson someday.

First, will you adopt?  I'm cute, lovable and like to suck onna bottle.  (Just not milk in it)

You need to decide if you want something from the fur era, the pre fur southern or northern rifles, or something from the War of Independance.  I would really suggest getting a book on muzzle loaders that has lots of pictures and deciding on what style of rifle you really want.  

Then look at the semi-custom makers and better quality companies.  Track of the Wolf, Pecatonnia, Dixie, Pedersoli.  Also Lyman and T/C make a very serviceable, quality rifle which almost duplicates the fur era Hawkins.

Now I have not mentioned everybody, but I will let others with more knowledge of the trade give you info on the others.

Found a hatfield. It is beautiful, except it is only a 36 cal. I can't deer hunt with anything less than a .38, and would prefer at least a .45.

 Then he show's a picture and want's a stroke,,geez,,some folk's are kinda slow and don't know  .40 cal. has won many nmlra shoot's for years.

  yet they know nothing of the .54.   nobody can read anymore,,look at toothpick,,poor guy,,he keep's asking answerd questions. all it takes is a couple hours of reading the vast archives here on this very site they all want a quick answer "right now!"

well two slow, that ain't what trad bp shootin's all about. my son's 12. he's been shooting his own .50 bp capper for 4 year's now,(on his own since the first day he got it!) and he shoot's many of my other bp arms,,,,,,so, which one will be passed to his first born?? I don't know,,,that'll be up to him. What I'll pass on to my grandson is tradition,,"one shot",, a way of living,,our/my life style,,ain't no $4,999.99 gonna buy that. it's already been paid for.
