Who has a reloading manual showing the Barnes 140 grn. Triple Shock in 270 Win and IMR 4350? I am almost out of 4350 so this is not cast in stone. My son (12) is going bull elk hunting this fall and so I need a elk load.

Don't you know you can't kill and elk with a .270? You need the latest and greatest whiz-banger "magnum" with the most expensive bullet made in order to be successful elk hunting! Why do you want to handy cap your son? Do you want him to grow up with a complex?

EVERYONE KNOWS YOU NEED AT LEAST A .338 MAGNUM!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:

I have had good luck with IMR or Hogdon 4831 in the 270. If it were me I would start around 55 grains and work carefully up in half grain increments.

A few years ago I was lucky to be drawn for bull elk and used a 300 H&H Magnum loaded with 165 grain boat tailed X-bullets. I hit at a pretty steep angling away shot . That bullet plowed through 36" of elk and lodged at the skin on his neck. I wouldnt hunt elk using a 270 without a premium bullet and I "believe" in the x-bullets.
I E-mailed Barnes Bullets yesterday for some load data and this morning I received a reply. They sent me EVERYTHING they have on the 270 win in thier reloading manual. Fine bullets from a fine company. Thanks for the replies.

Elwood, I was being a little cute with the comments......there is a running post on magnums and premium bullets in the bolt action rifle forum. I personally would have no problem elk hunting with a .270, and was kind of poking a little fun at Redhawk and Lawdog. Sorry for trying to have a bit of fun at your expense.

They stocked a few elk not far from here but I think I'd have a better chance of hitting the power ball than getting drawn for a Tennessee elk permit in my life time!

OF COURSE I'D HAVE TO GO BUY A .338 OR .375 MAGNUM. Any thing less and the rounds might bounce off!!!
