Serious Neglect
« on: July 27, 2005, 07:38:32 PM »
That is what my other milsurps are suffering since I got this K31. Got one of Darrels scout mounts on it and it is sweet!  I Would never get rid of my other milsurps and my Swede Mauser Scout rifle  will get some use this fall deer hunting as it is too nice of a gun to neglect and I really want to shoot a deer with it but the K31 will be going along as well and I may use that too for some close range cast shooting. Last year I shot two deer a doe and a 5 point (eastern count) with my Encore pistol in 308 using cast loads so I know it will do the job. My Mosins and my Turk Mauser may just get some dust on them this fall. The K31 just shoots too darn good. So does my Swede so It will be a toss up what I will grab I suppose it depends on the distance as I will be shooting   moderate strength condom loads in the swede and moderate cast loads in the K31 so there will be differences in the power levels. Why cast in the K31 well I have loads and bullets for that allready set up same with condom bullets in the Swede. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

They are really sweet, aren't they? My second trip to the range with mine I was trying a moderate load using the Sierra 155 "Palma" bullet, iron sights, 100 yards. I fired the first four and asked a friend to look through the spotting scope and tell me whether to fire the fifth shot. He told me I'd always wonder if I didn't. The group of .830" was a little flukey of course and not since duplicated but under 1.5" is routine. And I just like handling and cleaning the mechanism, it's so nicely made.
Jim, are  the bores chromed?

Some GP11 ammo for my K31 is supposed to arrive tomorrow in the big brown truck along with other ammo.  I have cleaned the Swiss, stripped the stock, ironed the dents out, reoiled it  and have it ready for its maiden trip to the range..  The bore looks practically new.  I am already thinking of replacing some of the fmj bullets with soft points to try it out on deer.  My Swedes need a little competetion for time at the range and in the woods.

I don't think the bores are chromed just well taken care of.  At least I have not heard they were Chromed.
