I'd just give em a call or email, they'll replace it. Take a digital pic and send that with the email....

I just have the RCBS and CH4 tool and die Die set for my 500MAG. I think for such a big cartridge, it should have lube on it. But I have not heard of anyone with a problem with there Lee carbide dies. I have heard some still use a case lube with the Lee carbide.  :D

I once pulled the carbide ring out of a Lee sizing die. I was doing a pile of 45ACP WCC military cases so I could remove the primer pocket crimps. I die actually got a little hot when it puked the ring, and that may have caused it to let go. I never had one break though.

I can understand why they would want you to send the broken die back to them
1) to make sure you really have one, some people will try and say they broke one to try and get something free.

2) quality control they would want to see why it snapped and try and make sure it doesn't happen any more, the 500 S$W is a new die and they may have a few bugs to work out.

3) safety, they would want to destroy it so no one would ever use it and if something happens come back and sue the company.

I have had to send dies back to RCBS and hornady they both wanted to get the die back  to inspect it. I have also had to buy a decapping stem for a 7 TCU. I sent them a check for what ever the total was and they sent me back 2 decapping stems.

I see no reason I should have to pay for the shipping or wait another 3 weeks to get my dies. If they want it back they can send me a pre paid box to ship it in. But i guess none of that matters since they're ignoring my emails.

How do you know they are ignoring your emails?
I sent summit an email a little over a week ago and they just got back to me. you have to understand company's get thousands of emails a week and it takes time to get to every one of them!

did you try and give them a call and talk to somebody high up?
if you call someone offer to email them a scanned copy of the receipt showing that you just bought them and ask that they send you a prepaid box so you can crap this back to them.

Did you try and take them back to the store you bought them from and exchange them?
Remember you catch more flays with honey then you you do with $#it, talk to the people politely and be reasonable, then if things do not go in a good direction you can start to show your anger.

If the store i'd bought them at had more than one set i would have exchanged them already. I already sent them a picture of the broken dies but from the tone of the email the replied with i got the feeling they didn't even look at it. I emailed them again the next day and now 4 days later still no response. This is the first day my work hours have permitted me to call them.

Of the few times I have dealt with Lee Customer Service, they went out of their way for me even when I was the cause of the problem. As to the buyer paying for return shipping that is SOP at most vendors for some very basic reasons.

I took it back to the dealer and he sent it off. I see no reason I should pay extra because they shipped a defective die out. Other places i've dealt with have always either just replaced it or sent me a prepaid box to return it in. Maybe lee has had trouble with people trying to scam them in the past or something.

so not the dealer had to eat the price of sending it off. why should he pay extra because they shipped a defective die out? it was not his fault, he just sold you the product at a very small profit margin. everytime a dealer does something like this for a customer it cuts into his bottom line. this will cause him to raise his prices or go out of business all together

The .500 S&W is a big case -- lots of surface area.  I use a dab of Imperial sizing wax on my cases, even with a carbide die.  I have found RCBS customer service far superior to all others.  When I encounter a problem with Lee dies I usually just call it a lesson learned and suck it up.

I had the same thing happen with a Lyman Carbide sizer for .45 ACP.  With the exception that this die had sized about 80,000 rounds.  I wrote to Lyman customer service, even told them of the service life of the die.  No questions asked, I had a new die in about a week.  Good company, good service.

Using any kind of lubricant in a carbide diewill speed the end for that die. Lubricant provides a place for grit to accumulate. That grit will not only score the cases that you size but it will scratch the die which will leave scratches on every case you size after.
I figure that the steel industry doesn't use lubricant when swaging through carbide dies so that is good enough for me. (I also read and follow the instructions that come with my dies)

I still don't have my new die. And since the instructions say not to use lube i wasn't planning on it.
