What exactly is a stover CT-3? It showed the steps to re-build it, but what does it do?

Its one of the "old hit and miss" engines they would huff, huff, huff, bang then huff huff huff bang. Very slow but heavy flywheeled to drive water pumps on the farm in the old days they ran anything that needed a motor then with a big wide leather belt.

He welded the cast iron head with steel wire MIG thats interesting.

So, I love old stuff like that. Where can I find one? Are they hard to come by?

Please excuse my ignorance on these, but what exactly makes them run. I know there is one giant piston, but what makes them run?

GASOLINE!!!! They are a very low RPM, high torque little engine for its time. They can be sometimes be found for sale too. The ignition is run by a little battery its very crude but i'll bet it still gets the best milage. Even the very old JohnDeer tractors used a motor like this too. They had a heavy flywheel on the side of the old big green tractor they still can be seen at the old tractor pulls at the country fairs.

Its the very first 4 stroke engine;

huff.............huff...................bang.......huff............................................

intake.........compression.......fire..........exhaust......................................

Heavy single and dual flywheels makes it function the oldtime inventors weren't dumb and they weren't PHD's either. I'll bet some weren't educated they just had common sense and a great idea.

All the projects seemed like good ideas and were all pretty understanable, I was just intrested in the CT-3 thing!

:wink: No problem. I have 8 Mosin Nagant M44 Barreled receivers that are just waiting for some tinkering. And I got a ton of ideas from this guy. He really knows what he is doing. Some good machinery too.
