7mm bullet ?
« on: July 30, 2005, 01:20:35 PM »
I've got some 7mm mauser bullets that were pulled from surplus rounds they are fmj with a exposed lead base, bullets are silver looking. they mic out at .285 to .286 I dont know if this is because they were pulled or if the 7mm mauser uses a larger diameter bullet.

Are these bullets SAFE to use in fireforming 7-30 waters brass or to shoot in any 7mm rifle's that shoot a .284 diameter bullets.

First off before you try anything, use a good quality magnet to make sure they are not steel jacketed.  I have a couple of bullets that are approx. .308 caliber and the same description as yours.  I put a magnet to them and they hang right on.

They are steel.
Does that meen it's probaly not a good idea to load them?

The barrel I would be shooting them in is a expensive barrel and I dont want to screw it up to save a few dollars on bullets.

Thank's

Definitely not a good idea.  They can do serious damage to your barrel if you use them.  I would recommend that you buy a common brand bullet such as Remington for your fireforming needs.  There are suppliers that offer them in bulk at pretty low prices.

I have to agree with Patriot. The bullets you described are either steel jacketed or Cupro-nickel jacketed. Either way they are not good to use on a good barrel. We have bulk 7mm bullets available, they run about .15ea
